Sparklers

I felt inspired to share one of my poems with you today. Enjoy šŸ™‚

Sparklers

They strike the first match

mouth champagned breath

onto our silver bodies

traceĀ their initials

with our crackling

illumination. Our necks unravel

into ash. We crumble

in the same direction.

We are buildingĀ golden nests

for a flockĀ who will not arrive.

We are so dizzy

from all this spinning.

Kinda Spunky: An Interview with Ava Leavell Haymon

I’m honored to share this interview I conducted with Louisiana Poet Laureate, Ava Leavell Haymon. I had such a great time talking to Ava that we ended up with a two-hour interview. We talked about Ava’s current role as Lousiana Poet Laureate, her writing and manuscript development processes, and each of her four books, including her latest, Eldest Daughter.Ā I’ve broken the interview into six parts, all of which you can find below. Ā To read Ava’s work and to purchase her poetry, visit:Ā http://avahaymon.com/books/

Enjoy!
